EXHIBITION OF THE MONTH

MIKA TÖRÖNEN
WATERCOLOURS IN RESTAURANT OIVA FROM 2 NOVEMBERUNTIL 1 DECEMBER 2019
My watercolours of Helsinki. Helsinki has been the main theme of my work since the early 2000s, but I continue to find plenty
of new sources of inspiration.
I spent my childhood in Tampere, but my earliest recollections of city life are from Helsinki, particularly Kallio, which we
often visited during my childhood.

What intrigues me about Helsinki are the
streetlights and atmosphere. I often find myself painting from my own memories
and feelings.

I started out as a full-time painter about 25 years ago and have primarily
painted in watercolours. The wonderful thing about watercolours is their
randomness; they are never fully under your control. I feel that it is not only
me, but also the water and chance that create the painting, and I have to allow
them to do their part.

I studied at the Julian Ashton Art School (Sydney, Australia) and have held
exhibitions not only in Finland, but also in many other European countries, as
well as in China and Australia. My works have found their way into many public
and private collections around the world
